Mircea Lăcătuş was born in Gherla, Transylvania, Romania in 1962. He attended the Art High School in Arad and graduated from the Bucharest Art Academy in 1989. From 1990 onwards he lived as a freelance artist in Vienna, Austria.

Mircea Lăcătuş has shown his visual art, which includes sculptures and graphics, in numerous exhibitions in Romania, Austria and the US, to where he moved in 2013. He was a guest artist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and currently teaches Basic Design at Oakwood University in Huntsville. In 2007 he was awarded the exil-literaturpreis for poetry. His bilingual [volume of poems: Link_intern lit_00647] rund um meine eltern eine burg (German/Romanian) was published in 2009 by edition exil in Vienna.
