German Sinto Oswald Marschall was born in Minden/Westfalen, Germany, in 1954.

Since 1963 he has been active in amateur boxing. In 1971, he boxed for the German national team for the first time and participated at the European championship in Kiev in 1974. In 1978, he ended his boxing career after 148 fights, of which he had lost only 11.

After his career as an active boxer Oswald Marschall founded the Boxclub Minden e.V. in his hometown with the aim of strengthening the self-esteem of young Sinti and Roma through sports, exhibitions, education and homework/tutoring. Another important function of the club was raising awareness of Sinti and Roma in the majority society.

Oswald Marschall is chair of the Verein Deutscher Sinti e.V. Minden (Association of German Sinti in the city of Minden), founded in 2010, and the education center Mer Ketne Wir zusammen! (Mer Ketne We Together!), founded in 2016.

The project Echt Clever – Gewaltprävention durch Sport und Bildung (Really Clever – Preventing Violence through Sports and Education) realized by Boxclub Minden e.V. and Verein Deutscher Sinti e.V. Minden was recognized by the Bündnis für Demokratie und Toleranz (Alliance for Democracy and Tolerance) in 2011.

Oswald Marschall is Head of Division at the Central Council of German Sinti and Roma and Vice-Chair of the Documentation and Culture Centre of German Sinti and Roma in Heidelberg, as well as project director of its Berlin representation.
