Lawen Mohtadi is a documentary filmmaker, author, journalist and publisher who has worked for major newspapers such as Dagens Nyhet, Göteborgs Posten and Expressen. She was a chief editor for Bang magazine between 2008 and 2011. Mohtadi was also active as a social and cultural journalist at the Swedish Broadcasting Cooperation between 2001 and 2007, including contributions to the programmes Folkradion, Front i P3, Studio Ett and Kulturnytt. In 2005, she became the co-founder and co-editor of the magazine End, a collective artistic project that appeared with two issues. She debuted as an author in 2012 with Den dag jag blir fri (The Day I Will Be Free), a prizewinning biography of Katarina Taikon published by Nature&Kultur.

Along with Gellert Tamas she is the co-director and co-writer of the 2015 documentary Taikon – the Untold Story of a Roma Freedom Fighter, which is based on her acclaimed biography. The book will be published in English by Sternberg Press in 2018. Mohtadi is currently a senior editor at Natur&Kultur.
