Jonathan D. Bellman is a Professor of Music History and Literature and Head of Academic Studies in Music at the University of Northern Colorado. His books and articles address questions of nineteenth-century musical style and historical performance practices. Areas of particular interest include the music of Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin and the influence of Hungarian Romani musicians on European composers such as Schubert, Liszt and Brahms. His books include The Style Hongrois in The Music of Western Europe and The Exotic in Western Music, a collection of studies of various ‘exotic’ musical dialects.
