Description

The article in the News Chronicle details the visit by nine ‘Gypsies’ and Dartford’s Labour Party Member of Parliament, Norman Dodds, where the delegation presented a series of proposals for, 1) a survey of the Gypsies in Britain, where they live, how many there are, whether they wish to continue a mobile lifestyle; 2) a string of camps for temporary travel, providing water and sanitation for travelling Gypsies; 3) education scheme for Gypsy children; 4) a circular of available employment for those Gypsies that wish to settle. The article mentions one of the delegates as being Percy Boswell, a descendant of the Gypsy poet, ‘Flaming’ Boswell.
